I thought that there were a lot of really interesting articles to read this chapter. I especially liked the supplemental readings. I thought that the article that had all of the definitions was really cool because it showed that there are a lot of different terms that can be used in that sort of situation. I also liked learning what they meant, because i didn’t know the definition to some of those words. I thought that the supplemental reading with the scenarios was really good. i thought that it gave people something to think about. It shocked me that these things were real and that people actually treated other people like that. It really made me think how awful and nonunderstanding people can be. One of the readings that i liked out of the book was the one about love. I thought that it made a lot of good points about love and relationships. I agreed with it when it talked about falling in love, and choosing love. I think that people fall in love after they get to know one another. I don’ t really believe in love at first sight. I have never really been a romantic type of girl. I think that the little stuff is sweet and shows that you care rather than the big tv commercial romance. I think that little things that are remembered and brought up between the couple are way more romantic. I also agree with the reading about the ones you fall in love with aren’t necessarily the people you would choose on a list. I think this is true because my boyfriend and i have been together for over 6 years, he definitely wasn’t someone i would have chosen to be with. But i got to know him and realized how much we are alike and how happy he makes me. I can’t really describe it but i know that it’s true.

I thought that there were a lot of really interesting articles that we read in this chapter. I especially really liked the article about the little 5 year old girl having a problem in school with actually being a boy. I had never really thought about that type of situation until i read that article. I don’t know what i would do if that was my child. Of course i would still support him/her in any decision that they wanted to make and would still love them. But i would think that would have to be a really hard thing to deal with being a parent. Besides the initial shock of the situations you would have to be questioning yourself. And then in the end your probably a lot more freaked out and worried about bullying, them getting their feelings hurt, and stuff like that. I don’t have any kids right now but it breaks my heart when other people’s feelings get hurt. Let alone my own child. And going along with being worried about their feelings being hurt. You would want to be there at all times to protect them from that sort of stuff and you really can’t. I do think however that it would be a lot more difficult being a father and having a son that wanted to be a girl then having a daughter that wanted to be a boy. I just really thought that this was a really interesting chapter; and even though i can’t really apply it to anything in my life right now. I still connect it to things that could happen in my future. It really just gives you something to think about.

Since i have been taking this class i have reflected on a lot of things in my past. The biggest thing that i have had to deal with that i have connected with the stuff that we have talked about or read in this class; is having to deal with co-workers. I have seen in the past many people that i have worked with treat me differently than they treated my male co-workers. Most of the ways that i would get treated differently would be when men that i worked with wouldn’t let me do some of the stuff that they would have other people do; because they would act like i was a weak little girl and i couldn’t do some of that stuff at least not as well. There were other ways in my jobs that i would see a difference in the way that i and my male co-workers were treated. One example of these differences was when i worked at a certain retail chain and this guy that i worked with, that had about the same job as i did, did a lot less work, and hadn’t been there near as long as i had; was rewarded with one or two more pay raises than i was. I had worked there for a little over 2 1/2 years and he had only worked there for about 6 months. I always worked as hard as i could, and always tried to stay until the project i was working on was done, i had customers praising me and good evaluations from my managers. He on the other hand received complaints from the customers about laziness and attitude. Even then he received one or two more pay increases before i ever did. I never thought that the sexism was real until i started working and realized how much difference your gender really makes.
